Dr. Patrick Bales is a Virginia native and received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech. He obtained a Master of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Maryland before pursuing veterinary school at the University of Georgia. At UGA he was active locally and nationally in multiple student-led organizations promoting diversity, acceptance, and inclusion in the veterinary community. After graduation, he underwent a rigorous one-year rotating internship in small animal emergency and specialty medicine at VCA SouthPaws in Fairfax, Virginia. His special interests within emergency medicine include endocrine and hematologic emergencies and point-of-care ultrasound. When not working, he enjoys outdoor activities of all varieties, visiting as many national parks as possible, and going on adventures with his dog, Ruka.
