Dr. Stephanie O’Connell was born in New York and raised in New Jersey. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University and attended veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania. After graduation, Dr. O’Connell completed her one-year small animal rotating internship in East Greenwich, Rhode Island where she developed her clinical interest in internal medicine. She then completed a one-year specialty internship in internal medicine in Maitland, Florida followed by a three-year internal medicine residency in Louisville, Kentucky. After residency, Dr. O’Connell and her fiancé moved to Richmond, Virginia where she worked as an internist for two years.

Her primary clinical interests include endocrine diseases, immune-mediated diseases such as immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) and immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP), and liver diseases. She also has interests and some additional training in critical care, diagnostic imaging (ultrasound), endoscopy, and interventional radiology.

In her free time, Dr. O’Connell enjoys gardening, kayaking, playing volleyball, and hiking. She also loves to travel, try new restaurants, and spend time with her fiancé, calico cat Trixie, and family.
